Wins Entrepreneur of the Year Award
DARTMOUTH,
N.S. - Michael Speraw, President of Uplift Technologies
LTD., was presented with the 2001 Entrepreneur of the Year
Award, elected by the Entrepreneur's Forum of Nova Scotia,
last night at the 5th Annual Awards Dinner.
The Entrepreneurs' Forum (EF) was developed in 1992 by experienced
business people in Nova Scotia to foster the growth and development
of knowledge-based companies. As a non-profit organization,
this organization's mandate is to provide Atlantic Canadian
companies with the support they need to bring new ideas and
products to the marketplace.
Uplift Technologies
Inc. (originally DayLight Technologies) manufactures and distributes
a range of healthcare products designed to make everyday life
more enjoyable. Owner Michael Speraw incorporated the business
in 1993 and moved the company headquarters from Toronto, Ontario
to Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada.
In the early years, the company's sole focus was on the Day-Light
systems, which are used to alleviate the symptoms of Seasonal
Affective Disorder (SAD) or the "winter blues."
After targeting this niche market in Canada, the company grew
to include other products that would enhance people's lives.
This new focus gave birth to offering assistive devices to
those in need. In the fall of 1995, the Uplift Seat AssistTM
was introduced. This product assists people, who would otherwise
need assistance, to get in and out of chairs by themselves.
Uplift helps people who suffer from such conditions as Arthritis,
Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinson's, knee, hip and other postoperative
conditions.
Uplift Technologies
is actively involved in research and development aimed at
adding new assistive technology to the current product line.
New products have been developed, such as the Wheelchair Seat
Assist, the Commode Assist, and the Kneel Assist, using the
