Seat Assist Earns Favorable Review from the Arthritis Foundation
DARTMOUTH,
N.S. - Uplift Technologies Inc., manufacturers of
the Uplift Seat AssistTM, announced that the Arthritis Foundation
had favorably reviewed the Uplift, recognizing it for ease
of use and improving accessibility for the more than 40 million
Americans with arthritis. A formal review panel of Arthritis
Foundation experts regularly evaluates products for recognition.
The Uplift Seat Assist is a light-weight, portable lifting
cushion that transforms any armchair or sofa into an automatic
lifting chair. The Uplift's patented design provides a stable
and gentle lift that supports up to 80% of a user's weight,
ranging from 80 to 350 pounds, depending upon the model. People
with Arthritis find the Uplift relieves pressure and associated
pain on their knee and hip joints when getting up from a seated
position. In addition, the Uplift lowers them slowly and gently
into a chair, preventing undue strain on the back.
In acknowledging the 18 products that gained favorable review
from the Arthritis Foundation, Debra R. Lappin, Esq., chair
of the Arthritis Foundation commented that: "These companies
realize the needs of the millions of Americans with arthritis
by providing products that are helping to improve their quality
of life."
Michael Speraw, President of Uplift Technologies Inc., underscored
this comment, saying, "That is what initially inspired
me to begin manufacturing the Uplift Seat Assist. It was obvious
to me that it could keep many people mobile, active and independent
by allowing them to exercise their own strength."
Uplift has been
clinically tested and proven "very useful for clients
with lower extremity weakness and/or upper extremity weakness."
(Institute for Rehabilitation Research and Development, Ottawa,
Canada) In addition to general weakness, Uplift can help individuals
suffering from arthritis, knee and hip conditions, rheumatism,
accidental injury, Parkinson's, post-operative conditions,
muscular dystrophy, neuromuscular disease, and degenerative
joint disease.
Uplift is lightweight (8.5 lbs.) and easily adjustable to
a weight setting appropriate for the user. It adds only two
inches to the height of a chair, yet provides a ten-inch lift.
With seat dimensions of 18" deep by 17" wide, Uplift
Seat Assist fits most armchairs. Uplift is also available
in a special pressure relief foam (V-foam) designed to prevent
pressure sores.
Uplift is available
from a growing number of home healthcare equipment dealers,
pharmacies and catalog companies. In the United States, Uplift
is priced from $149.95 to $349.95, and is eligible for third
party reimbursement. Call 1-800-387-0896 for a dealer near
