New Wheelchair Seat
Assist Transforms a Wheelchair into an Automatic Lifting Seat
April
4, 2001
DARTMOUTH,
N.S. - Uplift Technologies Inc., manufacturer of the
Uplift Seat Assist, announced a new member to its Uplift family
of products - the Uplift Wheelchair Seat Assist™.
The Uplift Wheelchair Seat Assist™ is a self-powered,
lifting drop-seat base that helps users gently seat and raise
themselves from a wheelchair. The gentle lifting action is
provided by a hydro-pneumatic piston that is activated once
the user releases the safety latch and shifts their weight
forward. It provides a gentle, controlled support for both
lowering and raising the user, it lifts up to 80% of the user's
weight, and is adjustable for weights between 80 - 350 lbs.,
depending on the model.
The Wheelchair Seat Assist was designed for people who spend
part of their time in a wheelchair but are able to propel
themselves with their feet. Caregivers are applauding this
product because it allows for easier transfers and eliminates
the stress and strain incurred while lifting and/or transferring
someone from a wheelchair.
The Uplift Wheelchair Seat Assist automatically locks in
position once the user sits down. This safety feature allows
the user to shift their weight comfortably while seated without
inadvertently activating the lifting action prematurely. To
get up, the user must simply release the latch cord, shift
their weight forward, and begin to stand.
